Brittland Manor, Maryland
Emily met Sam in her first few days of college. She had asked a fellow student about a tutor for Calculus 3 and the friend suggested Sam. Their love story continued through college and beyond. They had a tradition of celebrating their first date anniversary annually by taking a trip. On their 6-year anniversary they traveled to Camden, Maine where Sam proposed on a beach. The coastal location for the proposal was perfect for Emily as she grew up going to Nantucket every summer for family vacations. They chose Brittland Manor as the site for their wedding celebration because of its location on the water, the rolling green grass and charming gardens which were reminiscent of her love of Nantucket.
Emily and Sam used every inch of the property to host their wedding weekend. The rehearsal/welcome party was held inside the gorgeous manor house. She got ready in the primary suite with its gorgeous carved bed and vintage furnishings.
The ceremony was on the lawn with the aisle and ceremony arch positioned so water was visible through 2 large trees at the water’s edge. Cocktails were held in the garden and around the swimming pool and the reception was held on the patio in a beautiful sailcloth tent overlooking the water. A coastal/New England color palette of slate blue, sage green and white was a perfect complement to the natural surroundings of Brittland Manor.
Emily and Sam requested a “coastal grandmother vibe” meaning a classic, timeless, quality design with lots of unique and special elements. Beautifully designed invitations which featured a custom monogram, and a watercolor drawing of the venue was the first glimpse guests received of what the day would hold. Oyster shells calligraphed with each guest’s name served as escort cards. Touches of wicker in the lanterns over the dance floor, candle votives, chargers and the lightship basket used to collect gift cards added a coastal element. The floral arrangements brimming with fluffy blue and white hydrangeas provided another reminder of New England summers.
Sam and Emily were the first of their friends to get married and wanted to set the bar high. We think they accomplished that goal.
