Elegant, Timeless, Classic Georgetown DC Wedding

Elegant, Timeless, Classic Georgetown DC Wedding

Holy Trinity Church, Georgetown

On their first date Abigail and John bonded over a shared set of friends from high school and law school. Their romantic proposal took place on the last day of a vacation to Maine. Perched on a cliff in a field of flowers and surrounded by water with no one around John asked Abigail to marry him. The ring, an estate sapphire surrounded by diamonds was something Abigail had admired and tried on while on a trip with her maid of honor. The diamond ring was spotted a week after her first date with John. Perhaps Abigail knew where their relationship was headed after one date. When John was ready to propose the maid of honor told him about the ring Abigail had admired. He was able to locate and purchase the exact ring she had tried on.

The ring along with inspirations from vacations in Cape Cod and the New England Coast as well as their love of Americana and Ralph Lauren drew them to choose a color palette of navy blue, dusty blue and cream for their wedding day design. They share a love of classic, timeless and chic design rather than the easily replicated or predictable. Shopping in vintage and consignment stores for furniture and accessories that have a story is preferred over shopping in places like Pottery Barn or Restoration Hardware.

True to her love of timeless and classic as well as shopping in vintage stores was Abigail’s’ choice of wedding gown. Her gown was a vintage Oscar de la Rental, exquisitely customized by New Couture’s Alvin Thompson.

Abigail and John were married at Holy Trinity Church in Georgetown. After the ceremony guests boarded Old Town Trolleys and were treated to a tour of the sites of DC while Abigail and John and their wedding party took photos at nearby Georgetown University where John went to undergrad and Abigail to law school. The Trolleys were a nod to Abigail’s hometown of San Francisco.

The reception was held in a private club in DC. Guests enjoyed cocktails on the roof top with more views of the city. Boxes of Laudree Macarons reminiscent of Abigail’s time in France were tied with pretty bows and served as a favor and a place cards.  Guests dined at tables set with timeless blue and white linens. Lush blue and white flowers and lots of romantic candles created and inviting space to dine. After dinner and a round of toasts guests joined Abigail and John on the dance floor to dance the night away!
